Want variety without micromanaging your soundboard?
In Sound Show, you can create a single button that triggers a random sound every time you press it.
Here’s a quick, practical guide—two ways to build it, plus options to keep repeats under control and even auto-include future sounds.
You can either read this post or watch the Youtube tutorial :
What is it?
A Random button pulls from a set of items (sounds, videos, instructions—anything playable in Sound Show) and plays one at random on each press.
Great for ambience, SFX clusters, or music when you don’t care which exact track plays next.
Method 1: Create a Random Button from Scratch
- Open Edit Mode in any grid and press +.
- Choose Random from the element list.
- Select items to include
- (Optional) Style it—pick a color so it stands out, set a label...
- Save. Tap the new button to play a random item from the set.
Options
- Avoid direct repetition: prevents the same item from playing twice in a row.
- Cycle (no repeats until all played): every item must be played once before any item repeats. Perfect when you want balanced variety.
- Least Played First: chose the play the item that have least been played
Method 2: Build One From Selected Items (Fastest)
Ideal when your items already live in a single category or tab.
- Go to the category and enter Edit Mode.
- Select multiple items
-
Open the editio popup and choose Actions → Random.
- This instantly creates a Random button using your selection.
-
Set the options you want (Avoid direct repetition, cycle ...)
- (Optional) select a category , set the button color (e.g., red), and rename it
- Click it—yout get it: random sounds on demand.
Dynamic Random Buttons from a Category
Don’t want to rebuild buttons as your library grows?
Point a Random button at an entire category instead of specific items.
- When creating/editing a Random item, instead of Playable items, select some Category items and pick one or more categories
- The list will show how many items are in that category (say, 4).
- Add playable to the category, and the Random button includes them automatically—no extra setup.
Works with more than sounds: you can randomize videos, instructions, and any other playable element in Sound Show.
Quick Recap
- Add a Random element from + in Edit Mode (Method 1), or convert selected items via Actions → Random (Method 2).
- Use Avoid direct repetition to stop immediate repeats.
- Use Cycle to guarantee each item plays once before any repeat.
- Point a Random button at a Category to automatically include future additions.
That’s it—simple, flexible, and perfect for keeping your soundboard lively without extra clicks.
